American sprinter Marion Jones pulls out of Zurich meeting and denies drugs
American sprinter Marion Jones has again stated that she has never used performance-enhancing drugs after she withdrew from Friday's Golden League meeting in Zurich although why she pulled out is a bit of a mystery.
Marion Jones, 30, cited "personal reasons" for her surprise withdrawal.
However, according to reports in America Marion Jones has been caught using EPO, a claim vigorously denied by her lawyer but IAAF general secretary Piere Weiss refused to rule out a positive test and said: "This is what everyone guesses - it is an option we cannot deny."
Zurich meeting organisers were left puzzled by the absence of Marion Jones.
"We don't really know anything precise about her reasons," said media spokesman Christoph Schmid, and he added, "All we know is that she turned up and said she was leaving. Her manager told us it was for personal reasons."
Piere Weiss said: "We would have preferred that she stated what those personal reasons are."
Marion Jones is one of a group of athletes who have been controversially banned from taking part in the season's final Golden League meeting in Berlin.
