2009 European Cross Country Championships for Ireland
The European Athletics Council has confirmed that Santry in Dublin will be the host of the 2009 European Cross Country Championships and Athletics Ireland has decided that 13 December will be the date for the event.
The news was announced on Monday that Ireland had just beaten Carcassone in France and the Polish city of Bydogoszcz.
Liam Hennessy of Athletics Ireland said: "I am thrilled with the endorsement by European Athletics of our bid to host the Spar European Cross Country 2009."
Ireland had actually already played host to the 1979 and 2002 World Cross Country Championships but it will be the first time the country has put on the European Championships.
Liam Hennessy went on to explain that getting to be the winning host country and city had been the "culmination of several years of hard work".
