Philadelphia Flyers hockey captain Keith Primeau retires

nhl Philadelphia Flyers hockey captain Keith Primeau has announced his retirement after 15 NHL seasons because he is still suffering the after-effects of a concussion from last year.

"This decision will allow me to live a normal life and hopefully, with time, few reminders of my injuries," said Keith Primeau.

Keith Primeau, 34, missed the 73 games of the regular season and the 2006 play-offs after a hit in Montreal on 25 October.

Keith Primeau had joined the Philadelphia Flyers in 1999 after time with Detroit and Carolina.

Keith Primeau, who totalled 266 goals and 619 points in his career, was appointed Philadelphia Flyers captain in 2001 after he matched his career best 73 points the previous season.

The Philadelphia Flyers have named Peter Forsberg as their new captain although there is still some doubt for the start of the new season because he had surgery on both feet earlier this year.
