In ice hockey Edmonton Oilers beat San Jose and advance to NHL semis
In ice hockey the bottom-seeded Edmonton Oilers have just got promoted to the NHL semi-finals with a 2-0 win over San Jose.
Michael Peca and Shawn Horcoff scored for the Edmonton Oilers and led them into the Western Conference final against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
Edmonton Oilers stunned Detroit in the first round and eliminated the fifth-seeded Sharks 4-2 in the second round series.
"Our team has raised its level to a new place where it hasn't been all season," said Shawn Horcoff. "It's been hard work."
The winning team of the Edmonton-Anaheim series will be playing in the Stanley Cup final against the Eastern Conference champion, either the Buffalo Sabres or Carolina Hurricanes.
But the Edmonton Oilers players had very little time to enjoy the win that gained them their first trip to a conference final in 14 years and first victory in a series after losing the first two games, because they left after the game for Anaheim for the first game against the Mighty Ducks on Friday.
