Hockey winger Jonty Clarke in England victory
Reading winger Jonty Clarke scored twice as the England men's hockey
team saw off Ireland 4-0 in an international friendly in Nottingham.
Jonty Clarke drilled his shot into the far corner for the only goal of
the first half, after Mark Gleghorne had missed a great chance for the
visitors.
And Jonty Clarke tapped in a second soon after the break before Surbiton forward Matt Daly made it 3-0 moments later.
Three minutes from time Rob Moore deflected home Glenn Kirkham's cross.
England coach Jason Lee said: "I think it is a step up from what we
were playing in the summer and it showed what we need to improve on.
"What pleased me was the willingness to be committed in attack and defence and take responsibility.
"We scored three open play goals tonight and we need to score more open play goals.
"Jonty hadn't scored an awful lot of goals and he got two tonight. Matt
Daly usually scores from corners and he scored from open play and it
was good to see Rob score.
"We need probably two or three people to regularly score and another seven or eight others to contribute."
