Davidson, North Carolina - Rachel Dawson scores well Junior
Tar Heels hockey player Rachel Dawson scored four goals to lead No. 4
North Carolina to a 7-0 field hockey win on the afternoon of October
11, at Davidson. The Tar Heels improved to 11-2 on the season, while
Davidson fell to 3-8.
Rachel Dawson, a midfielder/back, who
comes from Berlin, N.J., doubled her season's total at Tuesday's game
and now leads the Tar Heels with eight goals this year. She scored her
first goal, and UNC's only one of the first half, just 16 minutes into
the game when she gathered the rebound after a save and successfully
shot the ball past Davidson goalkeeper Rachel Kiselewich.
After
a first half in which each team had two penalty corners and UNC had
eight shots to Davidson's two, the Tar Heels came back with a vengeance
in the second half. UNC had 15 shot after halftime and six of them
found the goal. Dawson started the second-half scoring in the 43rd
minute of play with a field goal assisted by freshman Britt van Beek.
Less than three minutes later, Britt van Beek scored a goal of her own,
her fourth of the season, on an assist from senior Naomi Weatherald.
With
only 16 minutes remaining, UNC was awarded its first penalty stroke of
the season and Rachel Dawson put it in for her third goal of the
afternoon to make the score 4-0.
