New York Knicks pay basketball coach Larry Brown $18.5m
The New York Knicks have paid Larry Brown $18.5m after they fired him back in June after just one season as basketball coach.
Larry Brown still had four years left on his contract worth more than $40m, but team owner Cablevision Systems Corporation said a settlement had been concluded.
The New York Knicks parted company with Larry Brown after the team went 23-59 in the only season he had been with them at Madison Square Garden.
Larry Brown, whose win-loss record is 1,010-800 in 23 seasons as an NBA coach, had led Detroit to the 2004 title and had been seen as the man to improve the fortunes of the underachieving New York Knicks, the NBA's biggest payers, however, Brown used 42 different starting line-ups in the 2005-06 season and the team dropped down to their worst record since 1985-86.
