Indiana Pacers allow Ron Artest to leave
The Indiana Pacers have agreed to a request by controversial forward Ron Artest that he be traded.
Ron Artest was suspended by the NBA for most of last season for his role in the infamous brawl with fans at Detroit.
Ron Artest recently told The Indianapolis Star he disliked playing for
Pacers coach Rick Carlisle and said he could not reach his potential
with the team.
Team president Donnie Walsh said: "I do think it is a time to see if he can get a new start somewhere else."
Donnie Walsh added: "I think that it is important for us to put our past behind us and stop these distractions."
The Pacers said Ron Artest, 26, would no longer practice or play with
the team but would continue to be paid while a trade is being sought
after.
Ron Artest was the team's second-leading scorer last season, averaging 19.4 points per game.
