Injured basketball star Pau Gasol thinks Spain will beat Greece

paugasol Injured Spanish basketball player Pau Gasol feels sure that Spain can beat Greece in Sunday's World Basketball Championship final, which is being held in Japan.

Pau Gasol, 26, who is a Memphis Grizzlies centre, would have been the only NBA player in the final but unfortunately he fractured a metatarsal in the semi-final victory against Argentina.

Greece amazed the United States with their 101-95 win in the other semi-final and are the current favourites to win the title but Pau Gasol said: "I'm confident the team can complete the job without me."

Pau Gasol has led his team through the tournament with 21.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game and now he called on his side to rise to be confident of winning Spain's first-ever major success in the sport of international basketball.

"We have nothing to fear from Greece," Pau Gasol said. "We just need to believe in ourselves because we are a great team who deserve to be in the final."
