English basketball player Haris Charalambous dies in America
English basketball player Haris Charalambous, 21, collapsed and died whilst training with the Toledo University basketball team in Ohio. He received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to hospital but death was pronounced and the cause remains unknown.
Toledo University vice-president Lawrence J Burns said: "This has been a shock to our entire athletic programme and university," and added that Haris Charalambous' family had been notified.
Haris Charalambous averaged 1.0 point and 0.9 rebounds in 29 games over two injury-plagued seasons at Toledo and had been expected to play back-up centre this season.
Haris Charalambous played for the Manchester Magic from 2001-2003, averaging 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds and he was the captain of the junior national team and England's 2002 Player of the Year.
Haris Charalambous relocated to America in 2003 and attended prep school in Princeton, New Jersey, however, he suffered a broken ankle and played just one game.
