Venezuelan major league baseball star Ugueth Urbina jailed
The former Venezuelan major league baseball pitcher, Ugueth Urbina, has received a sentence of 14 years imprisonment for the charge of attempted murder.
Ugueth Urbina was found guilty of being in a group of people who attacked five workers with machetes at Ugueth Urbina's ranch near Caracas, the attorney general's office in Venezuela has stated. They also attempted to burn the workers in October 2005, it was claimed by the prosecution.
As well as the attempted murder charge, Ugueth Urbina was found guilty of taking justice into his own hands and of unlawfully depriving people of their liberty. Ugueth Urbina had denied all charges claiming he was asleep at the time the crimes were said to have happened.
In his past career as a baseball pitcher Ugueth Urbina had helped the Florida Marlins win the 2003 World Series.
