Texas Rangers star Sammy Sosa joins MLB home runs club
Texas Rangers baseball star Sammy Sosa has been honoured by becoming the fifth member of Major League Baseball's 600 home runs club.
Sammy Sosa, 38, made the incredible qualifying home run in the fifth inning of the 7-3 triumph against his former club Chicago Cubs.
Sammy Sosa has now entered the elite ranks along with Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays.
Sammy Sosa was given a standing ovation as he went round the bases and applauded most enthusiastically by his team-mates.
Sammy Sosa has needed the second-fewest at-bats of any of the five leaders to get to the 600 mark required to join the elite club.
In the past Sammy Sosa hit 66 homers in 1998, and then hit 63 in 1999, 50 in 2000 and 64 in 2001 although his totals have dropped in recent years.
After a disappointing 2005, Sammy Sosa made an incredible comeback with the Texas Rangers this year.
