San Francisco Giants baseball star Barry Bonds will stay

barry bonds Reports say that San Francisco Giants baseball star Barry Bonds has sealed a one-year, $16m deal to carry on playing for them next year.

Knee problems kept Barry Bonds, 42, away from the action for much of 2005 but the San Jose Mercury News and MLB.com said a deal had been confirmed.

Barry Bonds, whose career has also been tainted by doping allegations, has 734 career home runs, and is just 21 short of Hank Aaron's all-time record.

"I'm obviously excited about hopefully watching him make baseball history," said San Francisco Giants pitcher Noah Lowry.

Barry Bonds, who has been with the San Francisco Giants for 14 years, recently came to the end of a five-year, $90m contract.

Barry Bonds' personal trainer, Greg Anderson, spent three months in jail after being convicted in the Balco steroid scandal, which rocked American athletics.
