Rain postpones game 4 for St Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers
Game four of the World Series between St Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers had to be postponed on Wednesday due to heavy rain in St Louis.
It will now be held on Thursday with game five moved to Friday, which was originally intended as a rest day.
Because more rain is forecast, there have been calls for the series to be moved to a warmer, neutral venue but Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said: "I would never go for that. I love this, no matter how miserable it is," and he added: "I think it would be a crying shame to take something like this away from the fans of St Louis or the fans of Detroit."
St Louis Cardinals are currently leading the best-of-seven series 2-1 and will host game four and five before the series moves to Detroit if necessary.
Game three, which the St Louis Cardinals won 5-0, was played in freezing temperatures and officials admitted the weather could affect the rest of the series.
"On Thursday there is about a 70% chance of rain, a light rain and we don't know if it will linger like Wednesday," Major League Baseball official Jimmie Lee Solomon explained.
