Michael Young helps the American League beat the National League Baseball player Michael Young scored a late two-run triple to give the American League a 3-2 win over the National League in the 77th All-Star game in Pittsburgh.
The American League had seemed to have problems when they went down to their last bat at the top of the ninth trailing 2-1 but Michael Young, 29, hit a Trevor Hoffman pitch into right centre to give Paul Konerko and Troy Glaus the game-winning runs.
"This is a pretty big highlight in my baseball career," said Texas Rangers shortstop Michael Young.
"It's important to give Paul and Troy credit for keeping the inning alive and giving me the opportunity," Michael Young added.
Michael Young's winning performance saw him claim the baseball MVP award.
The American League are now unbeaten in this yearly event since 1996.
And the National League took what appeared to be a decisive lead in the third after some excellent running by Carlos Beltran.
"I couldn't have scripted it any better, we had the lead," said National League manager Phil Garner.
