Major League baseball star Matt Lawson tests positive
Former Major League Baseball All-Star outfielder Matt Lawton became the
12th player to test positive for a banned substance on Wednesday and
the 34-year-old player was given a 10-day ban after his positive
steroids test.
"I made a terrible and foolish mistake that I'll regret for the rest of my life," said Matt Lawton in a statement.
"I take full responsibility for my actions. I apologise to the fans, the game, my family and all those people that I let down."
Matt Lawton was acquired by the New York Yankees from the Chicago Cubs
in August, but then left off the Yankees' post-season roster and became
a free agent last Thursday.
"I am truly sorry and deeply regret my terrible lapse in judgment," added Matt Lawton.
He has a .267 career average with 138 homers, 165 steals and 630 RBIs in 11 major league seasons.
His positive test was the third one announced since the end of the
regular season, following those of Texas pitcher Carlos Almanzar and
New York Mets pitcher Felix Heredia.
