Major League Baseball launch steroid abuse investigation
Major League Baseball will be investigating allegations of steroid abuse in the sport and slugger Barry Bonds is one player named, reports say.
Former US senate majority leader George Mitchell will probably be leading the study.
Performance enhancing drugs were not officially prohibited until after the 2002 season and Barry Bonds has said he never knowingly used any such substances, however, there has been a call for MLB to deal with the steroid problem.
Two books, Game Of Shadows by two reporters for the San Francisco Chronicle and Love Me, Hate Me: Barry Bonds And The Making Of An Antihero by Jeff Pearlman have alleged that Barry Bonds uses steroids, and MLB also faces questions by the United States Congress about the matter.
MLB has yet to confirm the steroid abuse probe, however, the New York Times reported in its Wednesday editions that commissioner Bud Selig was about to make it public.
