MLB coach Mike Coolbaugh dies in Arkansas
Mike Coolbaugh, who was a minor league baseball coach for the Tulsa Drillers, has died after being hit on the head by a ball from one of his own team's players.
Tulsa Drillers first base coach Mike Coolbaugh, 35, died as a result of a foul ball hit by Tino Sanchez during a game in Arkansas.
A police spokesman explained that Mike Coolbaugh had stopped breathing as the ambulance arrived at North Little Rock's Baptist Medical Centre and all attempts at resuscitation failed.
Mike Coolbaugh had only joined the Texas League outfit Tulsa Drillers on 3 July, and Tulsa Drillers president Chuck Lamson is reported to have said: "It's a tragedy for all of baseball."
Chuck Lamson added: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
A former baseball player with the Tulsa Drillers, Mike Coolbaugh had played 44 MLB games in his career, with the last of them for St Louis in 2002.
Mike Coolbaugh is survived by his wife, Mandy, and two young sons, Joseph and Jacob.
