Detroit Tigers baseballer Justin Verlander helps team win
Detroit Tigers' baseball star Justin Verlander pitched the second "no-hitter" of the season and the first of his career to help his team claim a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee Brewers.
Justin Verlander, 24, and a right-hander, walked four and struck out a career-high 12 batters to blank the Milwaukee Brewers.
Justin Verlander said proudly: "After the first couple of innings, I knew I had good stuff going."
Justin Verlander was clocked regularly at the speed of 99 miles per hour and hit 101 on the radar gun in the ninth and final inning. Justin Verlander threw 112 pitches in all.
Justin Verlander's no-hitter was only the sixth in Detroit Tigers history, their first since Jack Morris on 7 April, 1984, and the first at home since Virgil Trucks in 1952.
The only better achievement in baseball for a pitcher is a "perfect game", in which no batter is even allowed to reach first base.
The Detroit Tigers' victory has given them a first-place tie with the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central.
