Chicago White Sox baseball team start with a win
World Series baseball winners the Chicago White Sox started their bid for a second successive Major League Baseball championship with a highly impressive performance on Sunday when they dominated the rain-hit season opener and cruised in to a 10-4 win over the Cleveland Indians.
A full programme of 13 Major League Baseball games are scheduled for Monday after a pre-season, which has had some bad press due to doping allegations against Barry Bonds.
But Barry Bonds from San Francisco is now all set to go past Babe Ruth in the home run rankings and enters the season with 708 career home runs, six behind the legendary Ruth and 47 behind Hank Aaron's all-time best.
MLB commissioner Bud Selig said they are planning to commemorate Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth's and Hank Aaron's record but he has also said there would be an independent investigation into doping in the game, and this would include looking into the allegations against Bonds.
