Baseball star Roger Clemens case to be probed by FBI
Baseball star Roger Clemens case is going to be the subject of an investigation by the FBI who will try to discover if he lied to the American Congress about taking performance-enhancing drugs.
FBI spokesman Richard Kolko is reported to have said on Thursday: "The request to open an investigation into the congressional testimony of Roger Clemens has been turned over to the FBI and will receive appropriate investigative action by the FBI's Washington field office".
Roger Clemens had denied the use of drugs, which had been alleged by former trainer Brian McNamee when they both had to appear before the House Oversight Committee.
Both Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee could face up to five years imprisonment if they are found guilty of perjury.
Roger Clemens testified to the US Congress on 5 February, then again at a hearing on 13 February, that he had never used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone, but that of Brian McNamee contradicted his testimony.
Roger Clemens has won 354 games during his 24-year career and he is widely considered as one of baseball's all-time greatest pitchers.
