Baseball star Barry Bonds in doping controversy again
Baseball star Barry Bonds is once again at the centre of a doping controversy after the New York Daily News claimed he had failed a test for amphetamines.
Barry Bonds, 42, is already under investigation for his part in the Balco steroids scandal, although he has always denied the use of banned substances.
Major League Baseball and Barry Bonds' agent Jeff Boris have refused to comment on the matter.
However, under MLB rules, players who fail one test for amphetamines are not named but must accept counselling and more tests and a second positive test result sees the player named and given a 25-game ban.
Barry Bonds who has agreed in principle a new one-year contract with the Giants, is 21 home runs short of Hank Aaron's all-time record, although his successful career to date has been marred by his association with the Balco case in which his personal trainer was convicted of distributing illegal drugs.
