Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox sets new record
Atlanta Braves baseball manager Bobby Cox has set a new record by getting thrown out of the 132nd game in his career. The Society for American Baseball Research records 131 for John McGraw.
Bobby Cox, 66, has beaten this past record for being sent off as held by John McGraw, when home-plate umpire Ted Barrett in a 5-4 defeat of San Francisco Giants ejected him.
John McGraw had been manager of the New York Giants until 1932, but 14 of his sendings-off were when he was a baseball player.
Bobby Cox said: "It's absolutely no factor. It's nothing. It just means I've been around a long time, that's all."
Bobby Cox, a baseball manager since 1978, had tied the overall record on 23 June against the Detroit Tigers, although he managed to get through 43 games in a row without being sent off.
