Albert Pujols and Dustin Pedroia named as MLB's most valuable
Baseball stars Albert Pujols and Dustin Pedroia have been chosen by the votes of the Baseball Writers' Association of America as Major League Baseball's Most Valuable Players of the year.
28-year-old Pujols of the St Louis Cardinals claimed the National League (NL) award for the second time, defeating Philadelphia's World Series winner Ryan Howard.
And Boston Red Sox player, 25-year-old Pedroia has become the first second baseman to get the American League award since 1959 - he beats Justin Morneau.
The ballots for the award are based on the players' performances in the regular season.
Pujols, who hit 37 home runs and had 116 runs batted in (RBI), had previously won the NL award in 2005, although Howard had beaten him back in 2006.
Pedroia, who considering he was only taking part in his second full season in the majors, had an even more impressive record. He batted .326 in the regular season, hit 17 home runs with 83 RBIs, and he made just six fielding errors in the entireseason.
