American cyclist Lance Armstrong praises Tenerife
American cyclist Lance Armstrong was recently in Tenerife in the Canary Islands and he praised the place highly.
Armstrong spent over a week on the island in December of last year training with his cycling team Astana. He is quoted in Tenerife's The Magazine as describing Tenerife as "one of the best places in the world for training."

Kevin Pietersen wants to sort problems with Peter Moores
England cricket skipper Kevin Pietersen says he is keen to find a solution to the problems between himself and coach Peter Moores.
The pair are having a hard job at getting along and bad results in matches since Moores became coach in April 2007 are only making things worse.

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray beats Rafael Nadal
Scottish tennis star Andy Murray has made a brilliant start to the New Year and his new campaign with victories against Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Murray defeated the world's best players on two days in a row at an event in Abu Dhabi, and he is now on his way to Doha for the Qatar Open.

Marat Safin plays despite bruises from real fight
Russian tennis player Marat Safin was ready to play in Perth on Sunday although he had cuts and bruises on his face. The former world number had been in a real fight off the courts in Moscow.
28-year-old Safin, who was a contestant at the Hopman Cup, defeated Simone Bolelli, but he admitted he had been in fighting back in Russia.

Maria Sharapova hopes to recover for Australian Open
Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova is optimistic about her chances of recovering in time to defend her Australian Open title, although she has decided to pull out from an event in Hong Kong next week.
21-year-old Sharapova has withdrawn from the JB Group Classic because of an operation she had on her right shoulder that she is still recovering from.

US golf star John Daly banned from PGA Tour
American golfer John Daly has admitted he has been suspended from the PGA Tour for six months because of his behaviour that had been judged as not reflecting well on the professional golf image.
42-year-old Daly said he was making a public announcement about this "to be fair to my fans and tournament organisers".

Welsh boxer Enzo Maccarinelli is hoping to reclaim the WBO cruiserweight title when he fights against Johnathon Banks in February.
Lightweight boxer Amir Khan from Bolton will also be taking part in the tournament although the date and venue have yet to be announced.

Footballer Jermain Defoe may get sold by Portsmouth
England striker Jermain Defoe could be up for sale in the New Year's transfer window, according to Portsmouth chairman Peter Storrie, who had been talking to the press.
Defoe has been rumoured to be moving to Manchester City, as well as being linked with possible moves to Aston Villa and former club Tottenham Hotspur, a club he had parted company with a year ago.

Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton gets an MBE
British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton has received an MBE after his name was announced as being on the Queen's New Year Honours list.
23-year-old Hamilton, who celebrates his 24th birthday next month, had achieved becoming the youngest winner of the Formula One championship following an exciting climax to the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos back in November.
