Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis criticises NFL

clintonportis Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis has criticised the NFL's pre-season schedule after he suffered an injury in a recent game.

Clinton Portis, 24, partially dislocated his left shoulder in an exhibition game against Cincinnati on Sunday.

"Let's get rid of some of these games," Clinton Portis said. "Four pre-season games is ridiculous. They should be for guys who are unproven.

"Knowing I'm going to carry the ball 350 times, you want to avoid as much wear and tear as possible."

It now seems doubtful that Clinton Portis will be coming back in time for the Washington Redskins' season opener on 11 September against Minnesota.

"Obviously it will be a while before he can play, but we don't know how long," said Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs.

Clinton Portis had set a franchise record with 1,516 rushing yards last season as the Washington Redskins reached the play-offs.

Joe Gibbs added that he had only planned to play Clinton Portis for one series on Sunday.
