Pittsburgh Steelers win the Super Bowl and The Rolling Stones rocked Ford Field
The Pittsburgh Steelers have won their first Super Bowl since 1980 by a victory over the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in Detroit.
Seattle Seahawks had the better of the first half, but ended it 10-3
down because of a controversial touchdown by Pittsburgh Steelers
quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Willie Parker then ran in a 75-yard score, and set a Super Bowl record.
And although Jerramy Stevens gave the Seahawks hope of winning, Antwaan
Randel El ensured the victory by executing a brilliant trick play to
MVP Hines Ward in the endzone.
There were unforgettable career highlights for veteran running
back Jerome Bettis - who retired straight after the game - and for
long-term coach Bill Cowher, because neither had won a Super Bowl
before.
And Pittsburgh Steelers won their fifth season finale, tying with
Dallas and San Francisco for the most in the NFL, while Ben
Roethlisberger, at 23, became the youngest winning quarterback.
Pittsburgh Steelers, who had most of the support from the crowd, failed really make much impression until the second quarter.
But suddenly they sprang into life when Ben Roethlisberger connected with Hines Ward to reach the Seattle three-yard line.
Local hero Jerome Bettis spurned two chances to convert before
Ben Roethlisberger made a desperate dive for the line and was awarded a
touchdown when there was some doubt that he had crossed the line.
The Rolling Stones provided some rock music entertainment and their
lyrics might have been about Seattle Seahawks when they played their
classic hit "I can't get no satisfaction," which could be heard blaring
out across Ford Field.
On the first drive of the second half, missed tackles allowed
Pittsburgh Steeler's Willie Parker to make the longest touchdown run in
Super Bowl history.
Then Ben Roethlisberger handed the Seahawks a lifeline when he
carelessly threw an interception to Kelly Herndon, who ran the ball
back for 70 yards.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck rifled a touchdown pass to Jerramy Stevens to lower the deficit to four points.
However, Pittsburgh Steelers answered with their defining moment of
victory of the game with Antwaan Randal El finding Hines Ward for the
spectacular 44-yard touchdown that finally brought back Super Bowl
glory to the "Steeler Nation."
