Pittsburgh Steelers seek to prove their Super Bowl XL win wasn't a one-off
Pittsburgh Steelers want to prove their Super Bowl XL victory wasn't a one-off in spite of beginning the new NFL season without quarterback 'Big Ben' Roethlisberger.
Although Ben Roethlisberger was fit again following recovery from a serious motorcycle accident in June, he has had to have his appendix removed ahead of the opener game in Miami on Thursday.
The Miami Dolphins are tipped as contenders and so are Super Bowl finalists Seattle and Indianapolis.
Pittsburgh Steelers beat Seattle 21-10 in Detroit last February and won their first Super Bowl since 1980, with Ben Roethlisberger key to their success.
Back-up QB Charlie Batch will be starting against the Miami Dolphins and Willie Parker will be the replacement for running back Jerome 'The Bus' Bettis, who retired from the sport.
Coach Bill Cowher and his staff will decide on Ben Roethlisberger's comeback on a weekly basis of evaluations.
