Norv Turner is the latest NFL coach fired
Oakland Raiders head coach Norv Turner has become the latest NFL coach
to get fired after two losing seasons and he joins a growing list. Norv
Turner's dismissal comes in the same week St Louis, Green Bay, Houston
and New Orleans all sacked their coaches.
The Raiders suffered a disappointing 4-12 campaign, which finished with a run of six straight defeats.
"You have to win with a vision for the Super Bowl, I didn't feel the fit was right," said Raiders owner Al Davis.
Mike Martz, Mike Sherman, Dom Capers and Jim Haslett lost their jobs too after disappointing seasons for their clubs.
There are now eight head coaching vacancies in the NFL as Minnesota
axed coach Mike Tice on Sunday, Kansas City's Dick Vermeil has retired
and Detroit's Steve Mariucci was fired in November.
Norv Turner, who coached the Washington Redskins between 1994-2000, led
Oakland to just four wins in his first season in 2004 and has a career
record of 49-59-1 and just one play-off appearance.
