New York Mets sign pitcher Billy Wagner
The New York Mets have just signed closing pitcher Billy Wagner on a four-year deal worth $43m.
The 33-year-old played his first nine seasons with Houston and the last
two with the Mets' National League East Division rivals Philadelphia.
Billy Wagner had 38 saves in 41 chances in 2005, posting an impressive 1.51 earned run average, the lowest of his career.
The Mets have also managed to obtain big-hitting first baseman Carlos Delgado in a trade with the Florida Marlins.
The Mets dealt the young first baseman Mike Jacobs and two minor league
prospects to cash-strapped Florida in exchange for Delgado.
The 33-year-old, who hit 33 homers and drove in 115 runs last season, had three years and $48m left on his contract.
Florida have agreed to send New York Mets $7m as part of the deal.
