NFL star Darrent Williams died in Denver shooting
NFL Denver Broncos star Darrent Williams was one of three people who died in a drive-by shooting incident in Denver in the early hours of New Year's Day.
Denver Broncos- spokesman Jim Saccomano said: "We're speechless. It takes words away - it's a terrible tragedy."
Darrent Williams, 24, who was in his second NFL season, had earlier on played for the Denver Broncos at the time of their 26-23 defeat by San Francisco.
A Denver police spokesman is reported to have said that the white Hummer limousine that Darrent Williams, and two other people - an as yet unidentified male and a female - were in, was sprayed with bullets from a vehicle that pulled up alongside.
All three suffered bullet wounds and were taken to a city hospital, where Darrent Williams was pronounced dead.
Darrent Williams, a second-round pick in the 2005 draft out of Oklahoma State had started nine games in his first season due to injuries and he had taken over as a starter from Lenny Walls. Darrent Williams was second on the team with four interceptions and tied for third with 86 tackles.
