NFL San Francisco 49ers coach Bill Walsh dies
NFL coach of the San Francisco 49ers Bill Walsh has died aged 75 it has been reported.
Bill Walsh had been battling against leukaemia after being diagnosed in 2004 and he had received months of treatment and blood transfusions.
Bill Walsh didn't become an NFL head coach until he was 47, however, he made a great success of the San Franciso 49ers who had three Super Bowl wins under his guidance.
The San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl in 1982, 1985 and 1989, and Bill Walsh was named NFL coach of the year in 1981 and 1984.
Under Bill Walsh, the San Francisco 49ers drafted quarterback Joe Montana, wide receiver Jerry Rice and safety Ronnie Lott - who all proved to be among the best players ever to play in these American football positions.
Joe Montana said: "For me personally, outside of my dad he was probably the most influential person in my life. I am going to miss him."
Bill Walsh went 102-63 with one tie with the San Francisco 49ers, winning 10 of his 14 post-season games as well as six division titles.
Bill Walsh helped bring about the World League of American Football - which went on to become known as NFL Europe - in 1991.
