Indianapolis Colts beat Chicago Bears in a rainy Miami
Indianapolis Colts beat Chicago Bears 29-17 to win the Super Bowl XL at a very rainy Dolphin Stadium, in Miami.
Chicago Bears began well when Devin Hester made history by scoring the first-ever touchdown on a Super Bowl opening kick-off, returning the ball 92 yards but their control of the game was soon to slip (literally) from their control.
The Indianapolis Colts, led by the passing of Peyton Manning, the running of backs Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes and the kicking of Adam Vinatieri, battled from a 14-6 first-quarter deficit to claim victory over the Chicago Bears.
Tony Dungy proudly holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy exclaimed: "I'm proud to represent African-American culture, to be the first African-American to win this."
After the game the Chicago Bears blamed their defeat on the rain. "It was slippery. When the ball was snapped up from centre, it would just kind of slide off my hands," Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman said.
