Green Bay Packers star Brett Favre retires from NFL

favre Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has announced his retirement after 17 seasons in the NFL.

Last season 38-year-old Brett Favre broke records by becoming the all-time leader in passing yards (61,655), touchdown passes (442) and career wins (160), however, despite his phenomenal success the year ended with disappointment when Green Bay Packers lost the NFC title game to the New York Giants.

But Brett Favre had been the star of the game when the Green Bay Packers defeated New England in Super Bowl XXXI at the end of the 1996 season of American football.

Last year gave Brett Favre after one of his best seasons ever he was voted to his ninth Pro Bowl, however, he withdrew from the February game for reasons that were not made clear.

Green Bay Packers boss Ted Thompson said about Brett Favre: "He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the league. He is able to walk away from the game on his own terms - not many players are able to do that."
