British American football player Lorn Mayers injured in shooting
One of the UK's leading American Football players is described as in a critical condition after he was injured in a shooting at a New Year's Eve party in north London.
Lorn Mayers, 21, who is 6ft 3ins and 25 stones, was one of four people injured at the Elbow Room Club in Islington and Scotland Yard police are appealing for video footage of the party.
Police officers were called to the Elbow Room Club after shots were fired on the dance floor of the packed nightclub after a "disturbance".
Lorn Mayers, a 23-year-old woman and two men, aged 25 and 22, were all wounded in the shooting incident.
Last year, Lorn Mayers made it to the NFL in America when the Oakland Raiders picked him up, becoming the youngest player ever to be signed by an NFL side, however, he was released just before the start of the season and missed out on a permanent place.
