Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick apologises
Disgraced Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick has been warned he could be sentenced to five years in jail, after he pleaded guilty to being involved in a dog fighting operation.
After his court appearance at a press conference, Michael Vick made an apology for his behaviour and said: "I want to apologise for all the things that I have done and I have allowed to happen."
Quarterback Michael Vick, 27, will receive his sentence on 10 December, and District Judge Henry Hudson, who is presiding over the case warned that he didn't have to go by guidelines for sentencing and he said: "You'll have to live with whatever decision I make."
Michael Vick was accused of being involved in the running of an interstate dog fighting operation known as Bad Newz Kennels from 2001 to April 2007.
The prosecution claimed that the dogs sometimes fought to the death and that animals that didn't do well had been shot, drowned, hanged, electrocuted or killed by being battered into the ground.
Animal rights organisations such as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) were quick to protest to the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons about Michael Vick's cruelty to the dogs.
