Atlanta Falcons sign NFL legend Morten Andersen

mortenandersen Atlanta Falcons have signed NFL legendary veteran Morten Andersen following Michael Koenen's four missed attempts against Tampa Bay on the weekend.

Morten Andersen, 46, is the second leading field goal kicker in NFL history with 520 but he has not played since 2004 when he was with the Minnesota Vikings.

Morten Andersen said: "It's been a test of endurance for over the last 18 months.

But in my heart, I knew I could still play, and I'm really excited to be back in the NFL."

It will be Morten Andersen's second time as a player with the Falcons having spent six seasons in Atlanta from 1995-2000.

Morten Andersen already holds the NFL's career games played record with 354 and needs just 77 more points to beat Gary Anderson as the all-time leading scorer.

"Morten is one of the finest field goal kickers in NFL history," said Atlanta Falcons head coach Jim Mora.
