Arizona Cardinals name Ken Whisenhunt as head coach
The Arizona Cardinals American football team have named Ken Whisenhunt as their new head coach and signed the former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant on a four-year contract.
Ken Whisenhunt, 44, will be the replacement for Dennis Green, who was sacked after the Arizona Cardinals ended the season 5-11.
Now that Bill Cowher is leaving Pittsburgh Steelers, Ken Whisenhunt had been expected to move on up from offensive coordinator to head coach at the 2006 Super Bowl champions and he was also interviewed for the job of coach with Miami and Atlanta.
The Arizona Cardinals have had just one victorious season and one play-off appearance since 1984 and Ken Whisenhunt becomes the eighth head coach since the franchise moved to Arizona in 1988.
Ken Whisenhunt had played for nine seasons in the NFL and also has been an assistant coach with four NFL teams, including with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the last six years.
