American footballer LaDainian Tomlinson sets NFL record
American football player LaDainian Tomlinson set an NFL season record of 29 touchdowns after he scored three times as the San Diego Chargers defeated Denver Broncos 48-20 on Sunday.
The victory represented San Diego Chargers' second AFC west division crown in three seasons.
LaDainian Tomlinson, 29, began the game two scores away from Shaun Alexander's record of 28, which was set last year with Seattle, and for the seventh consecutive game in a row the running back rushed for over 100 yards (103), carrying the ball 28 times during his triple touchdown burst.
"As much as you try to ignore the record, you think about it and for a player you just kind of want to get it over with," LaDainian Tomlinson said.
While the San Diego Chargers claimed their post-season spot, it was disappointing news for the Denver Broncos (7-6) who are now third in the AFC table, with Kansas City Chiefs in second place.
