UK cyclist Mark Cavendish aims to be a Tour de France winner
UK cyclist Mark Cavendish is aiming to become the first rider from his country to win the green points jersey in the Tour de France when he takes part later this year.
24-year-old Cavendish was the winner of six stages in the race last year and was only 10 points behind Norwegian cyclist Thor Hushovd.

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray beats American Sam Querrey
Scottish tennis player Andy Murray has just made an impressive 6-1 6-4 victory against his opponent Sam Querrey from America at the Kooyong Classic.
The game against Querrey has served as a successful warm-up for the forthcoming Australian Open in which Murray is hoping to continue his success and will be taking part in next. The Scotsman is also hoping for his first Grand Slam title this year.

South African sprinter Caster Semenya to return to sport
South African controversial sprinter Caster Semenya could be making her comeback to sport in February, although an ongoing gender testing probe has still not reached a firm conclusion from its findings.
19-year-old Semenya was the winner in Berlin in August last year. She earned the world 800m champion as a title but Semenya also became the subject of an investigation that wanted to determine her actual gender.

Nottingham boxer Carl Froch wants to fight in Copenhagen
Nottingham boxer Carl Froch is hoping that he can make the next defence of his world super-middleweight title in Copenhagen, instead of the city of Herning in Denmark.
Froch will be defending his WBC title against the Danish fighter Mikkel Kessler on 17 April.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez to battle onward
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has sworn to battle onward with his club although he has just watched them lose their chance in the FA Cup by being defeated by Reading.
Reading beat Liverpool with a 2-1 score even though Liverpool had been in the lead earlier in the game.

UK boxer Ricky Hatton to make his comeback
British boxer Ricky Hatton has announced that he will be making his comeback to boxing this year.
31-year-old Hatton said that he wants to have at least one more fight and that there is the possibility of another fight after that. He hasn't got anything arranged as yet though but has confirmed that he will be in the ring again later this year.

Michael Schumacher to return to Formula One but Ferrari not worried
Legendary German racing driver Michael Schumacher is about to make his return to Formula One but Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali is not worried about this and, if anything, welcomes the challenge for their newly recruited Fernando Alonso to race against.
Schumacher had previously been the winner of five world titles with Ferrari in an 11-year partnership with the Italian motorsport team, however, he is making his comeback with Mercedes, a new team formerly known as Brawn.

Golfer Tiger Woods loses support from General Motors
In the wake of the recent trouble in the life of US golfer Tiger Woods, General Motors (GM) has decided to stop letting him have free access to its vehicles.
The star had an endorsement deal with GM's Buick brand, but that expired in 2008 and was not renewed, although he was allowed to have several GM motors on loan. That arrangement ended last year and the company will not let Woods have the privilege any more.

Serena Williams and Dinara Safina both win at Sydney International
US tennis star Serena Williams and Russia's Dinara Safina were both winners at the Sydney International in Australia.
Williams, who is the current world number one in the rankings for the sport, defeated Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez with a 6-1 6-2 victory to go through to the quarter-finals of the event.
